After what feels like a never-ending procession of lockdowns across the past year, it’s no surprise that people’s interest in cycling is still at an all-time high - from long-term aficionados to people who have only recently discovered the joys of life on two wheels.

And, it probably shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that it’s electric bikes - or e-bikes - in particular that are enjoying a special moment in the sun: with so many benefits, it’s easy to see why so many people are tempted by adding a motor to their bike.

Put simply, that little motor lets you do so much more, whether you’re off-road, on-road, or anything in between. Carrying heavier luggage, turning a longer commute from something unmanageable to something realistic, enhancing your experience of trail riding, or simply getting you out there in the first place… Whatever the challenge, there’s likely to be an e-bike to help you overcome it.

But what about those who still need convincing?

You’ll achieve more

Getting motor assistance can make impossible goals possible. By adding a boost when you need it - for steep hills, heavy loads, or long-distance stamina - you’ll end up going further and faster in total. And, probably having a lot more fun...

You’ll ride more

Knowing that you can get a bit of electric assistance if you need it means you’ll be way more motivated to get on your bike more often (there are many studies to back this up). More manageable means more enjoyable, which means more sustainable - which is the key to making any exercise regime a lifelong habit. E-bikes are also a way of getting out there in the first place. If you’re not in great shape, or have injuries or medical conditions which make standard cycling difficult or even impossible, an e-bike can help you to ease back in safely and enjoyably.

You’ll commute more

Imagine you could cut down the amount of time it takes to cycle to work, and arrive less sweaty… If you’re short on time or you don’t have time to change or shower, an e-bike gives you the benefits of a two-wheel commute without the downsides.

You’ll get two bikes in one

If you decide you don’t want the extra help, you don’t need to use it: you can simply switch the motor off when you don’t need it, or when you want to burn maximum calories and really feel that thigh-burn.

You’ll get to ride with more people

E-bikes make it possible for people of different speeds to ride together, meaning you can go out in mixed groups without worrying about leaving anyone behind. If you’ve always wanted to join a local cycling group but worry about not keeping up, well, you’ll no longer have anything holding you back.
