Balance Bikes

Kids can start to learn how to ride a bike a lot earlier than you may think. Our balance bikes are suitable for kids aged around 1 year up to 4 years. Balance bikes are the perfect way to introduce your child to riding a bike. By removing the pedals, balance bikes allow kids to learn how to balance and steer before learning how to pedal. This makes an easy transition to a pedal bike, much easier than if they use a bike with stabilisers. Balance bikes instil confidence and independence, making it a much happier experience for both kids and parents.

First Pedal Bikes

Once your child has mastered the balance bike, they can progress to a single speed pedal bike. We only sell high quality children’s bikes from trusted brands like Frog, as we believe this is important to the whole experience for the child when learning to ride a bike. Our lightweight bikes are easy to manoeuvre, with scaled components such as easy reach levers and shorter cranks. This makes the bike much easier to control and more fun to ride. It may seem unpractical to buy a more expensive bike while your child is growing, but a good quality bike can be handed down to younger siblings, or sold when no longer required. Good quality kids bikes tend to have a good resale value, which makes them a better investment in the long run.

First Geared Bikes

Progressing to gears is a breeze for kids once they are confident on a single speed bike. Our range of kids bikes only use high quality components and drivetrains such as Shimano and Tektro. We offer quality children’s hybrid bikes, mountain bikes and city bikes, ensuring they have a great range to choose from and get the right bike for their needs.

  • What size children's bike should I choose?

The size of a children's bike is best determined by inside leg measurement. Wheel size is also a factor, but cannot be used alone due to different standover heights across brands. It is important to get the right size for your child - too big can affect their confidence, and too small will be uncomfortable to ride properly. Our team at Sprockets Cycles can assist you in choosing the appropriate size to ensure a comfortable and safe riding experience.

  • Can I test a children's bike before purchasing?

Yes, we encourage test rides for children's bikes at our store. Testing the bike allows your child to get a feel for it and ensures a comfortable fit. Our knowledgeable staff will help you with the test ride process and provide guidance on selecting the right bike.

  • What safety features should I look for in a children's bike?

When choosing a children's bike, prioritise safety features such as reliable brakes, appropriate frame padding, and handlebar grips. Look for reflectors for visibility, and ensure your child wears a properly fitting helmet for protection.
